Comments and Experiences from Yoga Within students

READ transforming experiences of learning YOGA FOR LIFE......

Students enter Yoga Within for many reasons -  to 'get fit';  or by physician referral for a
condition or disease; to relieve depression, stress and anxiety; become calm; find peace
of mind. And as you change, your body and mind NEED a more organic approach to yoga!

They are pleased how quickly Viniyoga excites an inner change!

You may recognize your interest here. Yoga is a spiritual adventure, rarely understood when

you first consider it. The difference between 'physical exercise' and yoga is - yoga movement

involves every living cell of your body - which means that how you move your ankle affects
your shoulder; unlike isolated practices of weights and others - helpful when done safely.

Other forms of exercise are 'success' -  'goal', - 'end result'  - directed and, unfortunately
can contribute to our society's drive toward anxiety, stress, depression, burn-out, disease.

YOGA asks that we NOT compete, we NOT judge ourselves or others, we NOT set unrealistic
time limitations - inappropriate goals - and MOST IMPORTANTLY, Yoga asks us to give up
pre-conceived and misinformed ideas of what yoga 'is'. It askes for a Leap of Faith!

                                                                           YOGA offers FREEDOM.....

How to Breathe (formerly Breathe for Your Life) Workshop and students practice -

" Breathing is an essential part of our lives, yet most of us go about our days taking shallow breaths that leave our bodies oxygen deprived. In Breathe for Your Life workshop, Lynn reviews the seven distorted differences of how we breathe, and sends students home to practice correct breathing.
In the workeshop, Lynn is an effective guide, helping students to explore their breathing styles rather
than simply showing us what to do. She empowers her students to succeed, one breath at a time."

" I didn't understand the underlying stored emotions of my lifetime were the cause of my breathing
problems
, or that learning how to breath from my core could prevent disease. I hope that
everyone, especially pregnant women, will take this workshop and begin to practice breathing fully"
Tina P.

" In the morning, my asthma can flare up- first with wheezing; if I immediately sit quietly and practice
my Original Breath, it goes away. My yoga and breathing practice have eased some very difficult times".
Cathy Wilson

What students learn in Yoga Within........

Yoga Student"I really enjoy learning yoga from Lynn. And it is "learning," rather than just "taking" yoga. Unlike other yoga classes that I have attended, Yoga Within moves in a logical progression, imparting to students skills that build upon
each other.
I had previously taken Bikram classes for nearly a year and while I initially
enjoyed the strenuousness of those classes, I never had a context to understand the poses.  In 2004, I moved from the Yoga Within Level I to the
Level II, and am enjoying working through more challenging "explorations."
I feel that in my daily life my breathing and posture have improved greatly.
I feel much better than before I started taking this course.

Lynn's style of teaching is so calm, patient and restoring that just seeing her
at the head of the class triggers a relaxation response in me!"

'My experience with Yoga Within has been very positive. After years of weight lifting, I have a good amount of muscle mass. I am lean, however, I was told
by my physician that I had a limited range of motion due to a lack of stretching.
This lack of flexibility was a major factor in my occupational lower back injury.

He stated that I was also lacking core muscle strength, that is, the muscles in the center of the body were lacking strength. Western exercises such as weight lifting
work the outer muscles, however, do not benefit the inner muscles, or the core muscles.

He gave me a choice: physical therapy or yoga, the latter sounded much more interesting to me.
Some of the exercises seem very easy while you are doing them, sometimes it does not feel that
a
great deal of effort is required. After doing some yoga leg exercises I did not really think that I exerted myself or put out much effort. The next day, I felt like I had done deep heavy squats and lunges;realize that this slow moving of muscle was much more effective and safe than what I
had
practiced or known.
I will definitely be enjoying the benefits of yoga for the rest of my life. My only regret is that I was
not introduced to Lynn sooner.'  Jeff Ellis, 2005
and in 2007 Jeff says.....

"My blood pressure has continued
to stay normal with my daily yoga practice; if I miss, it goes up"

"We began Yoga Within course in January 2003, and we've enjoyed Lynn's teaching, because she works with us individually. If there is a position we can't do, she will work with us until we get it.
We can feel her energy in class. We sleep so much better now and have learned so much, we look forward to our class." -Pascual and Teresa Guardado, 2004
and in June, 2007 they say......

'We are now enriching and deepening our experience in the Meditation Course".

"After attempting to do self-taught yoga at home I realized that I needed a teacher. I have a low back problem and have always found that exercise helps keep me out of pain. I thought yoga would be a good adjunct to my regular routine. Well, after 2 months on my own, my back was starting to hurt worse. Lynn's classes made all the difference. I realized the opening stretches and core strengthening exercises are essential to assuming the poses correctly. Lynn's 40 years of experience, and the comprehensive health questionnaire gives her an awareness of special needs of students, and
her gentle approach to teaching yoga allows even those with restrictions to benefit from learning yoga." -Mary Pat Gates, Registered Nurse Practitioner, since 2003

"I took my first Yoga class at the age of 18. Throughout the years I’ve practiced on my own, but never with any real focus or direction. I met Lynn Kelley-Piper over a year ago, and my life has never been better! Under Lynn's gentle guidance, I have developed stamina and a balance in my life that I’d never had before. I’m now 52 and at a transitional time of my life. My Yoga classes contribute to my physical and spiritual well being in a way I never could have imagined! Thank you, Lynn." -Veronica Salinas

"When I started taking yoga lessons, I had no expectations. A friend told me yoga would help me with my breathing. I am a long distance runner. I was scared at first because I suffered a broken neck and head trauma eight years ago and now experience lightheadedness and shoulder and neck pain. With the different yoga poses and movements, I was skeptical that I would accomplish anything useful. I began classes with Lynn with an open mind. Lynn and I discussed my limitations and she worked with me, one-on-one. At first, I could not even lift my arms over my head without chronic pain. I could not sit at a computer more than 15 minutes without my shoulders and neck spasming. After ten weeks of lessons, I was sitting at my computer for more than three hours one day and realized my shoulder and neck pain was gone. I am now able to raise my arms over my head without pain. With my hands folded in prayer above my head, I thank God and Lynn for this gift. My running has also improved immensely with all the yoga stretching." -Martin McNamara

"I can think of no better serious exercise than yoga. Yoga has enhance my life as nothing else has in years. I am 68 years young, in good health, except for serious constipation, which I have suffered for years. Since taking Lynn 's yoga course instruction and dedicating myself (to the practice), I no longer suffer with constipation, headaches or from lack of energy; so important to me. God Bless my son, Jason, for pushing me to take yoga, and for guiding me to Lynn, my instructor. Thank you, Lynn." -Beverly Shepard, 2003 (now 72 years young!)

"I must say that I really love the class and having you as a teacher. One of my most favorite aspects of the class is how you integrate dance with yoga, which really lets the asanas flow with a sense of grace and freedom. My other favorite ingredient is how much you care about our safety and health. This is evidenced by how conscientious you are about having us listen to the wisdom of our bodies and how you go to great lengths to assure that we are doing the postures correctly.
I look forward to enjoying a long yogic relationship with you."
